settiai: (Holly Poly -- settiai)

I've been asked to delay opening the archive because it was unclear that, when it stated on the AO3 that the the archive would go live on January 18th as soon as everyone had a gift, that meant golive would be happening as early on the 18th as possible. Several people have said that they are still editing their assignments and aren't prepared for golive yet because of that misunderstanding.

Just to be clear: everyone has a gift at this point, so the archive can go live at any time.

It's currently past 2am for me, so I'm going to bed. If anyone feels strongly one way or the other regarding golive, please leave a comment. I'll make a decision once I've actually had a few hours of rest. I've received messages from people on both sides of the issue (asking me to delay opening the archive and asking me why the archive isn't live yet), and at the very least I'm willing to delay until midday to get an idea where the majority stand before making any decisions.

i dont see it as a delay so much as the collection opening on time tomorrow night. so im on the side of the collection being delayed until 11:59PM EST, january 18th, essentially midnight january 19th.

Agree!

Ao3 schedule very clearly has 11:59 EST on 1/18, which is roughly half a day/15 hours away. Since that deadline has been posted the entire exchange - and was not even the standard week from works due date of Monday, seems like the best course of action.

Yay everyone having a gift though!

That's not fair. You said the archive would go live as early as possible today. If everyone has a gift you should open the archive.

That doesn't seem to have been clear to a number of people for a number of reasons.

I'd vote to open at the time the AO3 schedule says. A 24 hour delay isn't the end of the world and could mean a number of gifts receive a final update that makes them better for their recipient.

I second this. My experience with other exchanges has been that the reveal time listed on AO3 is the earliest time the collection will open, and I'd planned my editing time accordingly. I would very much appreciate having the additional time between now and the AO3-posted scheduled opening.

I third this. I thought all deadlines were 11:59EST like the schedule said and the collection going live when everyone has a gift was just to allow for delays if pinch-hits were late. I would rather wait and have a properly edited gift because everyone got the full time they expected than risk getting a gift without final edits.

Oh wow. Glad it didn't go live or that would have been embarrassing. Thought the time on AO3 was the time of reveals. I'm traveling and won't have access to update it with the fully edited version for another twelve hours of so.

Thank you for running the exchange! I’m sorry for the confusion that and frustration that this must be causing for you and several participants, but hey! AO3’s having some issues today, so this may actually turn out to everyone’s benefit.

I run a bunch of exchanges myself, so I know how simultaneously stressful and aggravating and rewarding it can be at times. You’re doing a pretty awesome job at it, and I hope I get the chance to participate again next year! =D

This is stupid. If everyone has a gift just post them already. Don't make us wait.

It’s not about everyone having a gift. It’s about everyone having the time they thought they would to edit. I get that you’re frustrated but wouldn’t you rather everyone have time to edit? Wouldn’t you rather that any gifts you receive be properly edited? Most people are expecting to have another 12 hours to edit their stories.
