Fandoms:

Merged the two Vampire Diaries fandoms that were in the set, since one was already the & Related Fandoms tag.


Warcraft (2016): No one's nominated any of the games yet, so I'm inclined to keep this fandom as-is, if anyone is planning to nominate any of the books or games, we can switch this to AMT to put them all together.

Voltron: Legendary Defenders has some relationships nominated with (VLD) as the disambig, others are using (Voltron). I'm assuming VLD is the only Voltron fandom currently being nominated, yes?

Sailor Moon: this has been nominated specifically for the 90's anime - the canonical tag for that fandom also encompasses the manga. Is using that manga + anime canonical tag OK?

Supergirl is part of Arrowverse, yes?

Top Gear UK doesn't differentiate between hosting eras in AO3 so I am merging the two separate fandom nominations.

Please confirm whether any of the Pokemon nominations (main game, Mystery Dungeon, GO) can be merged to a higher-level tag (AMT).

I've got Power Rangers (series) and Power Rangers (2017). Both relationships in (2017) are also present in (series), can the (2017) fandom be struck?

I have American Gods nominated in both Book and TV, with most of the nominations under TV. I'd like to move them all to TV or make an AMT tag (AO3 doesn't seem to have one yet), any objections?

The Expanse has been nominated in both Book and TV, with the same relationship in both (sounds like nominations from two different people, based on comments. Can these be merged under an AMT?

Game of Thrones and ASOIAF were both nominated - all ASOIAF tags overlap with GoT, which has additional relationships. Unless there are objections, I'm going to remove ASOIAF.

I've got a couple American Gods/Supernatural relationships that were nominated under the separate fandom(s). I'm assigning them to the Crossover fandom.

Celebrían/Elrond Peredhel/Ereinion Gil-galad is showing up in a couple incorrect Tolkien fandoms, which one should it be under?

Anything in the Buffy and Angel fandoms that should only be in one versus the other? (Or I could create a Buffy & Angel fandom to merge the noms under)

River-Woman (LotR)/Uinen/Tar-Míriel (Silmarillion) has been nominated under Crossover fandom. Is there a Tolkien fandom that would be more appropriate? This might not be the only Tolkien tag with this issue.

That's correct! :) If they're under Voltron: Legendary Defender they would be for the same fandom. I've seen the two used interchangeably as the disambig.

This (crazy late)! "(Voltron)" is the canonical disambig, but to prevent wandering into other versions (namely DotU or Voltron Force) in other exchanges I've seen "(VLD)" used, but I really don't see DotU or Force being nommed in this exchange.

Not my nomination, but AO3 typically calls the character Diana (Wonder Woman) in the character and relationship tags. It doesn't mean it's the movie canon. Besides, Simon and Jessica aren't in the DC Cinematic Universe.

I would prefer keeping it specific to the 90s anime as that's the one I care about rather than the manga or Crystal (which is also covered by that particular canonical), but I won't raise a fuss if you'd rather go with the canonical tag and understand why you'd want to do so regardless.

I think it was me that nominated Supergirl -- unless anyone else has too which is super cool. I know recently they've done a lot of crossovers but I don't personally watch any of the other shows it crosses over with hence why I put it under Supergirl, I thought it still had a relatively contained universe (so far as I know, The Flash said him and the arrow characters were from an alternate universe with no Supergirl -- not sure if the recent episodes changed that, I'm still catching up)

Anyway long and short of it is; if it is put under arrowverse does that mean I can't bucket list it without also listing all the ships in Arrow?

Hello! I nominated a few Pokemon Main Game ships, but am not knowledgeable about all the game generations, so anyone who knows anything about that, please chime in!

I'm not actually super involved with the Pokemon fandom, but there seems to be a distinct difference between gameverse, mangaverse, and animeverse of several characters that appear in multiple verses. The reason is that in many cases, they are characterized very differently depending on the canon.

For the Pokemon canons nominated, there doesn't seem to be much overlap between them, but if Main Game is merged under Pokemon AMT, it might be confusing since many game characters also come up as incarnations in other Pokemon verses, often under the same name? Often times, they would be characterized a different way depending on which canon they're from.

As for the Celebrían/Elrond Peredhel/Ereinion Gil-galad relationship, it would probably be best categorized under The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien. Elrond is the only character of the three that shows up in any of the other canons, but the other two only show up with any some of significance in The Silmarillion and related.

Some of the crossover pairings (including some mentioned here) were me and I did it that way because I really wasn't sure how to nominate a crossover...apologies! This is only my second tag set. Anyway I saw a few of mine were x'd out but still made it into the crossover section. I feel like a newb but I hope all that worked out okay. :)

In addition to issues where some characters have not appeared yet in the show and character trajectories are not the same, the book and show are set in different time periods as well. There are show ships that are not in the book and vice versa.

Yeah, the show differs from the books a bit in plot, and besides which the show has only covered book 1 and part of book 2 so far (out of 6, soon to be 7 books) so show-fans might not want to request/offer if the fandoms were merged, for fear of spoilers.

If you want to file River-Woman (LotR)/Uinen/Tar-Míriel (Silmarillion) under a Tolkien fandom maybe The Silmarillion could be it? Tar-Míriel's story is more pertinent to the Silmarillion and the River-Woman is such a shady character that doesn't properly appear in Lotr but is only a back-story character, as far as I remember.

Also:

Fíli/Kíli/Thorin Oakenshield should be only in The Hobbit AMT and not Lotr.

Elrond Peredhel/Legolas Greenleaf/Thranduil is in all Tolkien fandoms, but I'd say it shouldn't be in The Silmarillion (and maybe not in Lotr Book either).

Not my nominations, but the Power Rangers (series) and Power Rangers (2017) are completely different beasts. None of the characters are interchangeable.

Movie Trini - A loner who has moved from place to place so many times that she's always the new girl
Show Zack - Jason's best friend, a martial artist and a dancer who is fun loving
Movie Zack - A young man terrified of the prospect of his mother dying covering it up with a front
Show Billy - A socially awkward genius that is taking karate lessons
Movie Billy - A socially awkward genius that is on the spectrum

Also movie Rita and Zordon are both explicitly former ranger while show Rita and Zordon aren't.

In addition, almost every character is played by an actor of a different ethnicity.

The part of the series where the characters appear is firmly set in the 90s while the movie is set in the 2010s.

Hi, I'm one of the nominators for American Gods (TV). I've read the book as well, so I personally don't feel strongly about merging vs. keeping separate. But there are enough plot differences between the TV show and book to warrant keeping them separate, imo. For example, one of the book ship nominations includes Samatha Black Crow - she has not appeared yet in the TV show. And the TV show has made significant changes to major character storylines. I would think someone requesting Laura Moon, Mad Sweeney, etc in the book will be looking for something different from those characters in the TV show.

I feel the same way for The Expanse TV vs. the book series. For spoiler and character difference reasons, I'd prefer they stay separate? But that's just me, whatever is easiest!

I think I did some but not all of the American Gods nominating, and I am sorry that I didn't see this followup question about it til now, but yeah, the book and TV characters and trajectories are quite different. People who have only seen the show or only read the book would be surprised at the parts that are less/more/differently defined or handled.

I strongly object to removing ASOIAF. The books (ASOIAF) and the show (Game of Thrones) differ wildly as of the more recent seasons, both in plot and in characterization. I'm talking serious, big divergences. I would want to offer and potentially request ASOIAF, but not GOT, because they have become seriously different.

As the Expanse (books) nominator, I would object somewhat less strongly if you merged the books and show to an AMT, buuuut there have been some differences in plot and characterization, so book-fans and show-fans might be wanting semi-different things, even with the same ship nominated. (Not nearly as different as GOT and ASOIAF are, though.)

And more importantly, if Expanse became an AMT, any show-only-fans would potentially get burned/spoiled by people requesting or writing things that show up in later books, because the show has only covered the first 1.5 books and there are 6 books currently out.

So, any of the ships nominated could be moved into the book fandom (as well), the ONLY ship that doesn't translate to the TV show (yet/if at all although it's likely later) is the one with Samantha Black Crow, so it is set up correctly, however, I don't know how you want to handle the fact that that only gives one possible ship in the book fandom.

So basically they could all go either way except Samantha Black Crow. But it still would help to have them nominated separately like...at least book vs. TV specified, because the character arcs are all different. Hope that helps.

Just thought I'd point out these are book characters (The Vampire Diaries - LJ Smith), not TV show characters. Meredith does not feature at all in the TV show and Bonnie McCullough is renamed Bonnie Bennett and drastically changed ethnicity/personality/direction wise in the TV show. TBH all the book characters are way out of whack with their TV show counterparts. Last time I checked in with the books, I think Elena was an Angel and Damon was in hell (or maybe that was Stefan, idk)

Vampire Diaries got merged into one fandom since the megafandom had been nominated, as opposed to only the individual tags being nominated. So if someone wants Book-only characters, they should still be able to get them from the megafandom.

Oh god really =/ does that mean I can pretty much only offer/request half then of what I would like to offer/request or will we be able to request the same fandom more than once? I don't want to bucket list it in case I get one of the ships I can't or won't write/wouldn't like to receive but to be siphoned down from like 50 to 10 or whatever the limit is AO3 imposes makes it not worth bothering at all tbh.

Also are all spin off fandoms going to be merged? TVD/TO only share maybe 5 characters tops and have had maybe 2 crossover episodes in four seasons. Both have their own plot and run on a different time line. the majority of characters stay within their own shows. Literally the only thing they share is one family of vampires and a werewolf.

It's the same as Buffy vs Angel, Breaking Bad vs Better Call Saul, Once Upon A Time VS Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, Elementary vs Sherlock vs every adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, every American Horror Story, Game of Thrones vs ASOIAF, in fact any film or show that's based on a book. Pretty much 90% of modern media should end up under one "Comic Book" umbrella. Most video games comprise of several spin offs (there's like 15 final fantasy games). Unless everyone reads and watches and plays every single spin off, no matter how small the tangent, it's going to make signing up a nightmare.

Many spinoffs are one fandom to start with, such as Star Trek, or Dragon Age. Buffy and Angel I would actually merge if I could. If the two different fandoms had been nominated separately from the start, then I wouldn't have merged them, but one of the original fandoms nominated was the tag that already included the book fandom, meaning it would have split the requests into two places. Getting everyone who requested to come back and specify which fandom they wanted, or if they wanted both, isn't going to happen in a timely manner. But you can specify in your request -- if you even get matched on this fandom. You're already matching on four unique factors (3 characters plus one fandom), often five if you throw in media type.

I think the limit per request on the AO3 is 20, but you can do 2 requests, that just means you have to make 4 requests at a minimum - Fandom 1, part 1, Fandom 1, part 2, Fandom 2, Fandom 3. So with 33 relationships nominated, it shouldn't take up too much room from other requests/offerings; very few people actually use all their slots, I've found.

I think I was the only one that nominated The Originals and I nominated it under a separate tag. I couldn't do much about the Vampire Diaries & Related Fandoms one because it had already been accepted before I nominated and I assumed if I nominated it under The Vampire Dairies (TV), it would have been moved.

There should be more than 33 though because I nominated 20 for TVD and 20 for TO and there were nominations already accepted for TVD before I submitted mine and there are book ones in there to now so the number should be closer to 50? Please tell me merging them hasn't deleted whichever one got absorbed into the other because the ones I'm most likely to narrow down to are The Originals ones.

I guess I'll have to do 2 lots of 20 then but yeah, I am someone who likes to offer as much as I can possibly offer and request as much as I can so that I'll match easily and so that I'm more likely to be pleasantly surprised by what I match on. It makes it more fun that way but normally everything isn't thrown together to make it that much more difficult if you aren't watching every single spin off and shipping every single ship.

Before the fandoms were merged the only tags that were in the megafandom tag that were not also in the book fandom tag were the two tags with Bonnie. All other tags were duplicates. They may have equaled more than 50 between the two, but the content of the tags was the same. If there are any relationships missing I can try and add them, if it'll let me do it after signups have opened.

Ok bear with me because it’s nearly 5am here and I’m going to have to get up and get my laptop out for this. So far as it’s showing me, The Originals has 23 tags and TVD has 33, with the migrations I pointed out above. I would have copy and pasted straight from my nominations but it’s deleted my nomination for TO entirely from my lists.

I don’t know what you’re seeing but that’s how it looks from a non-mod POV. Still listed as two fandoms just with a lot of migration between the two rather than one megafandom, as you put it. Once I have my laptop I’ll list all the tags and strike through the migrations to see how many I’m missing (I had 20 unique to each, so after migrations I should still have 40 otherwise some have been deleted in the mix up).

ok on my laptop; it's 29 to 33 my mistake.

I copy and pasted them all into a spreadsheet and alphabetised them and deleted any that had appeared in both tag sets so that in theory, I have a copy of what you are seeing with the "megafandom".

Count for the TVD&Related one before sorting however seems to be 32 not 33 and 28 not 29 for The Originals but I'm going to put that down to AO3 being weird.

Before taking out the ones that appear twice, the count is 60 tags.

After taking out the ones that appear twice, the count is 46 tags.

I did however notice that in one tag set there was a Freya Mikaelson/Keelin/Hayley Marshall and in the other it was Hayley Marshall/Freya Mikaelson/Keelin so I've counted that as two separate tags because it's a duplicated not a migration.

As per the AO3 bug that I'm aware of, 16 tags are showing up in the sign up sheet for The Originals. And no fandom tag at all is showing up for The Vampire Dairies and Related fandoms so I've copy and pasted it in and all 33 are showing up for that one.

Given how much of a mess it's become and how even though they've supposedly been merged, it's only sort of half merged them and more migrated them about that anything, I've had to sign up for Any Relationship in both fandoms to stand a chance of being matched on something, in case I put it under TVD and someone else puts it under TO. It means risking being matched on something I don't really want/won't write very well but I can't really see any other way of doing it.

OK, you're talking about a fandom called The Originals, which is part of TVD -- I was talking about the book tag TVD and the AMT fandom 'TVD & Related Fandoms.' So I haven't touched The Originals at all, because I didn't realize it was part of TVD. If no one else has signed up for it yet, I could try to swap the TVD & RF tag back to the book fandom, if that would work.

Oh, sorry that’s what I was pointing out had migrated and so when you said you merged all TVD hence it wasn’t a migration, I thought you were including TO in that, hence all my other comments about spin offs and going from 40 to 20.

Anyway, I signed up at about 5am (UTC) and am writing my letter now so I don’t know if moving them now will be possible but honestly, if nobody else brings it up as a problem then I’m ok bucket listing the lot. Most are mine anyway and I’ll just have to deal if I get something for a ship I wouldn’t have otherwise requested. I don’t think there’s any ship there that is a hard no for me anyway.

I nominated Harry Potter/Tom Riddle/Voldemort. I had kind of two thoughts on this nomination, which is why I didn't specify on it further. The first is Tom Riddle as in the diary apparition, which existed concurrently in canon with Voldemort. The second was that much of the fandom treats Tom Riddle and Voldemort as two different personalities/characters even though they're one person, so I thought it could be treated that way.

I totally understand if it's not approved bc it's too vague or not an acceptable ship configuration lol

I figured that was what was going on - the AO3 does seem to have both a piped tag and separate tags, but I wanted to be sure it wasn't a typo.
